Taḥrīr: Digital Scholarly Editions
Preparing scholarly editions of premodern works involves a complicated procedure, that begins with codicological analysis of the work's manuscripts, transcribing their texts, and encoding other textual and historical data. The Kātibī component of Dabīrān was designed to facilitate this step. The next step in the process involves collating select passages of the work from all its manuscript witnesses in order to establish the stemma codicum. Taḥrīr’s digital scholarly editing environment provides tools for executing these tasks. The researcher can create an editing project and connect it to the manuscript witnesses of one or multiple works. Taḥrīr tools help researchers recover various versions of the work and acquire a better perspective on its composition and transmission histories. Moreover, Taḥrīr provides innovative tools for representing various versions of a work, which is a critical step in preparing critical scholarly editions. As such, Taḥrīr integrates all the necessary tools to prepare a camera-ready or digital scholarly edition.
