Dabīrān
The Dabīrān Project on the Intellectual History of the Islamic World is a research project focused on studying the scientific and philosophical traditions of the Islamic world through the lens of medieval manuscripts. The project is named after Najm al-Dīn Dabīrān al-Kātibī al-Qazwīnī (d. 675/1276), author of one of the most widely studied works on logic of the medieval period: al-Risāla al-Shamsiyya.
Our digital infrastructure facilitates various kinds of research, from the basic work of organizing, reading, and digitally transcribing manuscripts; to capturing historical and scientific data from manuscripts; to publishing and disseminating the project’s outputs in the form of scholarly editions, translations, and intellectual-historical research.
Dabīrān comprises four subprojects, including two digital research environments and two digital libraries:
Dabīrān is designed, developed, and maintained by Osama Eshera, Sajjad Nikfahm-Khubravan, and Fateme Savadi. The research carried out via Dabīrān's digital infrastructure has been published in various peer-reviewed academic outlets.
